Il mare a Scanzano Jonico è cristallino e ha un fondale sabbioso che digrada dolcemente tanto che è un luogo particolarmente adatto alle famiglie con bambini piccoli, ma anche a coloro che amano fare passeggiate lungo la costa. La sabbia è chiara, finissima e soffice.
Le dune sono molto caratteristiche ed è incantevole la presenza della macchia mediterranea ricca di fitta vegetazione oltre alla tipica fauna del posto. Il contatto con la natura è molto vivo.
Chi giunge a Scanzano Jonico non può non visitare la spiaggia di Terzo Cavone splendida ed incontaminata, caratterizzata da un ampio e lungo litorale di soffice sabbia dorata, il tutto orlato da verdi alberi che regalano una piacevole ombra naturale e un mare bellissimo, azzurro e straordinariamente trasparente, ricco di flora e fauna marina. Anche in questa zona negli ultimi anni sono sorte diverse strutture ricettive volte a soddisfare le domande del turismo marittimo.
