Il Castello di Marsicovetere, risalente all’XI sec., sorgeva nella parte più alta del borgo, esso venne abbattuto per costruire al suo posto un mulino a vento.
Oggi quello che possiamo ravvisare dell’antica fortezza sono parte delle mura, la torre dell’antico maniero e le due porte di accesso alla fortezza; una di queste due porte è percorsa da via Castello, su cui vi sono tre portali in pietra, rispettivamente del 1731, del 1806 e del 1811.
Con ogni probabilità le origini della fortezza risalirebbero all’età medievale poiché Marsicovetere fu un’importante Contea e feudo di varie casate principesche.
Grazie alla sua posizione arroccata in cima alla collina, il visitatore può ammirare l’intera valle circostante e immergersi in un suggestivo panorama.
