Salandra è un caratteristico borgo della provincia materana il cui territorio è caratterizzato dalla presenza dei calanchi di argilla, qui chiamati “cintoli”.
Abitato sin dall’antichità dagli Enotri, l’attuale centro abitato risale ad epoca normanna.
Nel centro del paese è possibile ammirare gli antichi palazzi signorili e quello che resta del castello risalente al XVII sec.
Il Santo Patrono è San Rocco festeggiato il 16 agosto, nel 1656 il paese fu colpito dalla peste, ed a seguito di quella calamità fu proclamato patrono il santo taumaturgo.
